South Woodbury M..E. Cemetery.  Peru Township, Morrow County, Ohio

In an attempt to learn more about the South Woodbury Community I found it necessary to reconstruct the burial list that the Morrow County Genealogical Society published in the 1990's.  There were so many errors in that list that I  decided to research the people  further.  I have checked available death records in Morrow County and other materials and I will continue to edit this until it is right.  The Cemetery continues to erode even with the best efforts of the Peru township trustees who continue to repair it after vandals knock down stones.  I will be making additional trips to study it in more detail.  Please notify me of any known corrections. There is still much for me to learn. 10	1	Gardner	Frances		3/30/1869	45y10m21d	wife of James		On 10-1 Gardner, Frances, stone reads "wife of James".  I think this is exact same woman listed on a stone at Ebenezer Cemetery, Lincoln Twp., Morrow Co., Ohio, but they list her exaclty one year earlier Mar. 30, 1868 while this stone reads Mar 30, 1869. The Book has 45y-18m-21d. You show 45y-8m-21d, and my view agrees with y and d but on month I think it is 10m. There is no such thing as 18 months on a gravestone except for possibly a baby, thus the book is clearly in error, but I'm pretty sure the figure there contains 2 digits thus has to be 10 or 11. Now is this Mary Frances Kaufman, wife of James Gardner, which year is correct and is she buried here but also listed at Ebenezer for whatever reason? Or do we have 2 different persons involved here?  (HVS)

Thus the book listed date of death  Nov 28, 1899 is 10 years in error too much, it should read Nov 28 1889.  The courthouse  confirms her death was in Lincoln Twp., Morrow Co., Ohio on 11/28/1889, but for whatever reason age listed there is 64y-15d (this age is also wrong).Subtracting the age info that is on the gravestone  from 1889-11-28,  gives us the correct birthdate as per the book, 3rd of June 1824(HVS)

		Sadler	William (John A.?)						from Dorthy Brown Wintermute (no Marker) note: from researching Dorothy's family it seems her grandmother was married three times first to John A/R Sadler in 1858  2nd to Byron Monroe in 1869 and third to TL James in 1874. So possibly it is John Sadler that is buried here. (PAC)

Phillips, 26 Nov, 1890 John Hiland Fremont Waddell Gregory.  Some spell the one name Highland, reason unknown as my great-uncle Walter Jay Gregory spelled it Hiland.  They had 3 children, which you show. After John died she married second 5 March 1913 Morrow Co., Ohio license Vol. 7 pg. 419 Fred Peters. She married third 10 Sept. 1928 Morrow Co., Ohio Vol. 9 pg 102 Ernest Ashley.  Laura  Ashley died 25 August 1953, Peru Twp., Morrow Co., Ohio  at home of son Elvie Clyde Gregory.  She was buried 25 Aug 1953 in South Woodbury Cemetery  (listed as  having mailing Rt.# 3, Marengo, Ohio), Southwoodbury, Peru Twp., Morrow Co., Ohio. As there is no visible marker there she either  has no marker, or has one of those field rock markers, or if there was a marker it has fell over and buried under the grass. (HVS)
